New Versus Arthritis - MRC Project to start

We are looking forward to start a new project 'The role of Learning in Chronic Pain' this year, generously funded by Versus Arthritis and MRC. The team includes Flavia Mancini (CBL, Cambridge), and Oxford colleagues: Tim Denison (IBME), Anushka Soni (NDOrMS), Amanda Wall (NDCN) and Katja Wiech (NDCN).

New review paper on the computational neuroscience of pain

Flavia Mancini and I have just published an introduction to computational models of the pain system in Neuroimage, including perceptual (Bayesian) and motivational (Reinforcement Learning) models and how they fit together. It's open access and you can read it here.

Abstract: How does the brain generate the conscious perception of pain, and how does this help protect our bodily integrity? This interdisciplinary workshop bringing together researchers to discuss pain, action, and movement. Talks will range from understanding the theoretical basis of defensive systems in autonomous control, understanding the function of action and pain in health and disease.
